August brought awesome weekend visits by Grammy, and by our buddies Stephanie, Reid, Abbie, and Cyrus. Just last week we finally did some traveling of our own! More than two months after Heather's dissertation defense, Clara and I celebrated her accomplishment in style by taking her on a trip to sunny (yet cool) and mellow (yet interesting) Big Bear Lake, California.
Clara experienced her first chairlift ride as we cruised over the dirt to the top of Snow Summit.

with just a little bit of mess.
Clara made another new friend in Jeremy, Brad and Heather's awesome 3-month-old son. We're not sure if he enjoyed the "thumb-in-the-ear" game as much as Clara did.
Following the footsteps of Mom and Dad, Clara gets a head start on her dissertation. Here is her first draft... in what field, we aren't sure... maybe advanced linguistics or number theory...
